Easter Beginnings

Enjoy this colourful and engaging scheme of work for KS1, teaching your class all about Easter. Your class will find out about the last few days of Jesus’ life, his death and his resurrection. The children will complete some exciting activities and think about what Easter means to Christians, how Christians prepare for Easter as well as exploring various Easter traditions.

New Life

During this first lesson in the series, your class will explore the changes that happen to the weather and to their surroundings during spring. They will think about the different seasons and the differences between them. The children will also learn about how people celebrate new life at this time and start to explore Easter.

Your class will enjoy an engaging sorting activity as well as having the opportunity to go on a spring scavenger hunt and investigate what season they are in.

The Easter Story

Learn about Christianity and the story of Easter. Explore with your class who Christians are and why Easter is so important to them. Question the children to decide if they believe the Easter story to be happy or sad. Enjoy hot seating and role-play activities to understand what certain ‘characters’ were thinking and feeling during certain points of the Easter story.

Preparing for Easter

Learn about the preparations taken in the lead up to Easter. Starting with Shrove Tuesday, where your class will learn about the traditions that are now celebrated, as well as have the opportunity to make delicious pancakes. The children will also explore what Lent is and think about how they could give something back rather than give something up.

Explain what Holy Week is and how Christians during this time remember the last few days of Jesus’ life. Your class will explore what Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday are. Easter Traditions

Your class will enjoy learning about a variety of Easter traditions celebrated by Christians. They will find out about the Easter Bunny and why Christians eat Easter eggs, as well as learning about Easter bonnet parades and special food eaten during Easter. They will then be challenged to match Easter images and their descriptions, testing how much they have learned about Easter over this series.
