Factors, Multiples and Primes

This series of lessons is bound to get your children’s brains working. They will show what they know about numbers as they manipulate and eliminate them. Your class will be challenged to find the lowest common multiple as well as apply their knowledge of multiplication and division when they solve a variety of problems.

This set of five multiplication and division lessons comes with all you need to teach your class about factors multiples and primes, including detailed lesson plans, lesson slides and printable resources.

 
Lesson 1

Find and use factors and multiples

The first lesson in this Factors, Multiples and Primes scheme of work will encourage your class to explain what factors, products, multiples and integers are. They will be challenged to find and record factors and multiples of numbers. The lesson concludes with an open-ended activity that gives children the opportunity to share what they know about a given number.

Prime Factor Trees

During the second lesson of this Factors, Multiples and Primes scheme of work your class will make and use prime factor trees. They will be challenged to explain what a prime number is and how it differs from a composite number. Then they will apply this knowledge when finding the prime factors of numbers. They will be encouraged to check their answers by multiplying the prime factors.
